From 2009 to 2020, the firm's practice largely focused on international law, advising the United Nations, U.S. Department of State, European Union, and USAID on rule of law, governance reform, and human rights initiatives—including multiple assignments in conflict zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Richard incorporated the practice as LANGAN, PLLC in 2016.

The firm pivoted in 2020 during the global pandemic to focus exclusively on startups, technology companies, and investment funds—a transition that positioned Richard for his role at Google LLC from 2023 to early 2025. As Legal Counsel at Google, Richard managed over 150 discovery and disclosure matters across YouTube, Ads, Cloud, and DeepMind, reviewed hundreds of technology and SaaS contracts, and coordinated with patent litigation teams and outside counsel to align legal strategy with business objectives.
